# `Camera.state`

Property of [`Camera`](Camera.md) · stable · since 2.0.0 · called as `session.camera.state`

```ts
readonly state: CameraState;
```

Observed: the camera as of the last drawn frame (this frame's in a 'late' hook), [`Frame.camera`](Frame.camera.md) views included. Hooks read it too: in an 'update' hook and in a drag's `constrain` it is the last drawn frame's, since the camera has not moved yet, so a write that depends on the camera runs 'late' ([`Frame`](Frame.md) has no camera read). A `durationMs: 0` write's value reads from when the write starts (autocommit: at the call, unless it queues behind an open transaction), [`frame`](CameraState.frame.md) still the last drawn one, so a read after its await is the landed view or lens; never a view write's while a [`Frame.camera`](Frame.camera.md) view is held, nor a lens write's while that view carries [`fovDeg`](CameraState.fovDeg.md), since every frame then draws the hook's. Before any view write it reads the start view, `{ target: { x: 0, y: 0, z: 0 }, azimuthDeg: 0, polarDeg: 60, distance: 5 }`, with the default lens, the runtime's and the fake's alike; no scene write moves it, so an app frames with its own view write, which the zoom limits fitted to the product then clamp.

## Generic-API test (spec 3.1)

| Rule | Result |
| --- | --- |
| 1. Neutral name | pass: `state` names no product |
| 2. A precedent | pass: [Unity Camera.WorldToScreenPoint](https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/Camera.WorldToScreenPoint.html) (row `K42`); [Unity Camera.ScreenPointToRay](https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/Camera.ScreenPointToRay.html) (row `K42`) |
| 3. Two apps, or labs | pass: 21 apps (ledger: app-fc07850558, app-fc306ec3dc; fleet cross-check: app-04c2774145, app-37356bf09f, app-378d190f1b, app-4762caacdc, app-4f16d2f6da, app-510d750508, app-822bb9d6aa, app-b362a81c85 and 13 more) |
| 4. The cheaper fix first | decided per need in Appendix B: rows `K42` at tier stable (a member only where no rule, data, asset or app code serves the need) |
