Property of [`CollectionSpec`](CollectionSpec.md) · stable · since 2.0.0

```ts
stage?: StageSettings;
```

The collection's one stage layer, which [`stage.set(settings, { owner })`](Stage.set.md) on this collection
writes too. Each write replaces the layer whole, the later in the write queue wins, and a
`set` whose spec omits `stage` clears it (spec section 3.5), so a [`stage.set`](Stage.set.md) on this owner
lasts until the collection's next `set` or [`apply`](Writer.apply.md) that lists it; [`state().look.collections`](LookState.collections.md)
reads the layer in this key. Disposing the collection restores what was there.

**Default:** none

## Generic-API test (spec 3.1)

| Rule | Result |
| --- | --- |
| 1. Neutral name | pass: `stage` names no product |
| 2. A precedent | pass: [Unity RenderSettings](https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/RenderSettings.html) (row `K28`) |
| 3. Two apps, or labs | pass: 7 apps (ledger: app-378d190f1b, app-4f16d2f6da, app-510d750508, app-59c5b5751e, app-ceb4eccc72, app-fc07850558, app-fc306ec3dc) |
| 4. The cheaper fix first | decided per need in Appendix B: rows `K28` at tier stable (a member only where no rule, data, asset or app code serves the need) |
