Intent read: the merged settings, the scene model's background included. A URL-less `environment` object over a built-in reads as that object (`{ intensity: 0.45 }`), not as the built-in it retunes, which a lower layer or [`session.document`](Session.document.md) gives: a layer written from `get()` over 'none' lights nothing. It includes your own layers: a layer that scales a value under it computes from that value ([`session.document`](Session.document.md), the committed scene model's `backgroundColor`) or one kept before its first write, never from `get()`, or each re-write compounds. Sync.
